Death is a part of landscaping

Many are often surprised to hear that we will lose quite a few plants the first year landscaping is planted. Why is that? The harsh climate of Las Vegas makes it very difficult for some plants to take root here.

A good rule of thumb is to plant quite a few plants that do well in our hot dry climate. These plants should be very likely to survive the first year and many years after the planting is done.

After you have used up a lot of your space with native plants, try filling in with some of the other favorites you have that can survive here but don’t necessarily thrive. You will lose some of these plants just because of their difficulty to grow here.

Some will survive however and you can continually add plants year after year until your garden or landscaping is healthy enough to grow year after year.
